Marine Italia Asia Welcomes New Greater Bay Area Access for Hong Kong Yachts

Azimut Magellano 60

With Beijing’s new Greater Bay Area (GBA) pilot scheme on the simplification of rules for Hong Kong registered yachts travelling the GBA just announced, owning a yacht in Hong Kong just became even more exciting!

The policy allows Hong Kong registered yachts to enter and exit nine mainland GBA cities without customs guarantees and with simplified temporary ship registration, which reduces costs for owners of Hong Kong and Macao yachts when handling cross-border procedures while multiplying weekend and holiday destinations within a day’s cruise. For prospective owners, this policy added fresh destinations for quick getaways and longer coastal escapes. Marine Italia Asia has put together a few suggestions below for yacht owners to plan itineraries that make the most of this expanded cruising ground.

South of Zhuhai, the Wanshan Archipelago offers a necklace of green hills, sheltered coves, and clear anchorages ideal for 2-day escapes. Enjoy swims off the platform, sunrise paddleboarding, and unhurried afternoons in quiet bays, plus short, protected hops between island groups that suit both new owners and seasoned skippers.

To the northeast, Shenzhen’s Dapeng Peninsula and Mirs Bay deliver rugged headlands, sandy beaches, and calm waters perfect for relaxed day cruising. Drop anchor for a lazy lunch in a protected cove, then enjoy a late‑afternoon run along the coastline before returning to a convenient marina berth with dining, services, and city life close at hand, offering owners a seamless blend of nature and urban comfort.

For an urban‑meets‑nautical change of pace, Guangzhou’s Pearl River and the Nansha region would be an ideal choice. Owners who enjoy vibrant city stops can plan a night cruise along the river before stopping at the Nansha Marina Club for the night.

“These changes are great news for Hong Kong’s yachting community. With simpler procedures and more places to explore, we expect marinas, services, and nautical tourism across the GBA to grow. With smoother access and more locations within easy reach, it’s another compelling reason to own a yacht in Hong Kong,” said Paul Grange, Co-founder & COO of Marine Italia Asia.
